‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ to Scare Off Competition With $46 Million Debut

The big weekend for “Hotel” will set a new record for a September opening, as well as a new record for Sony Pictures Animation’s best opening ever.

While Selena Gomez had said in the past that kids don’t even know who she is, she recently came across a video of a little girl, enjoying and dancing to her music.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” features the voices of Jonny Solomon, Mel Brooks, Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, Keegan-Michael Key, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, and Sandler.

A Sony pictures production, the sequel of “Hotel Transylvania” is estimated to rake in $45 million as opposed to the maiden film which incurred $42 million in 2012.

But while he’s opened up to the idea of monsters and humans living together in relative harmony, he’s having trouble accepting the possibility that his newborn, red-headed grandson, Dennis (Asher Blinkoff) may never grow a pair of fangs. While there are spots that the movie is grossly saccharine and painfully corny, it manages more laughs than the original.

Underneath the layers of gross-out humor (the gelatinous creature Blobby envelops others whole and then spits them out covered in goo) and the many jokes about the coddling nature of modern parenting, there are surprisingly relevant messages about tolerance, acceptance and identity.

In addition to besting its predecessor’s opening day mark, “Hotel Transylvania 2” comfortably outperformed its competition. “I loved it. It was such a good real time in my life”.

Directed by Tartakovsky, “Hotel Transylvania 2” is now showing in theaters. Studio economics, not art, was the guiding force.
