Hottest September Day In More Than 50 Years Forecast

Put away that coat, folks – the country has been forecast to have its hottest September day in 55 years.

It means Britain could be as warm as Bangkok in Thailand, and hotter than predictions for Madrid and Los Angeles.

Yesterday saw highs of 23.5C in Gravesend Kent, with temperatures climbing further during the day today and expected to reach a peak of 25C in the afternoon.

Gale force winds are forecast to hit the west coast of Scotland by the end of tonight, ahead of of the warmer air arriving.

Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said: “It is caused by hot air coming from southern France and northern Spain”.

‘So we’ll start to see things warming up’.

It will be the first time that temperatures have soared over 30C in September since 2006, when London experienced temperatures of 30.5C.

However, in case, the temperatures rose above 31.6°C, then that would be the hottest September after year 1961, approximately 55 years back.

And the all-time hottest September temperature on record was 35.6C in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, in 1906.

The warm weather is expected to continue for most of this week, with temperatures expected to hit 27C on Wednesday, and 25C on Thursday, before dropping into the high teens by the weekend.
