House Speaker David Ralston postponed both pieces of legislation Monday afternoon to the next legislative day, ultimately ending the chances of the motion passing during this session. Neither did a proposal to allow betting on horse races. But Democrats opposed the measure, and Republicans need their support to pass a constitutional amendment through the chamber. Instead, Pence has said he would like the state to pull money from its reserves for road funding – the original concept of Senate Bill 333. House State Affairs backed, by a party-line vote, a new records exemption for people buying weapons regulated under the National Firearms Act such as suppressors and fully automatic guns, and unanimously cleared a new bill requiring community college trustees to live in geographic zones.

Macon Republican Rep. Allen Peake’s medical marijuana expansion bill passed out of committee this week, but has not been scheduled for a floor vote, yet. The bonding bill also helps fund conservation and efficiency projects at state assets. But the bill would still expand the list of medical conditions that can be treated with cannabis oil in Georgia, including HIV/AIDS, epidermolysis bullosa, post-traumatic stress disorder and Tourette’s syndrome.
“I don’t know what we are going to do if we don’t get additional instruments in the next day or two”, said Sen.
“Things like budget issues have become more pressing with the revenue shortfall projections”, Gearheart said.
The measure comes in response to last year’s murder of nine individuals at a SC church by 21-year-old Dylann Roof, after clerical errors led to a background check delay that allowed him to purchase a firearm despite misdemeanor drug charges that would have otherwise blocked that purchase.
If House lawmakers approve any amendments to the Senate bill, the Senate would either have to agree to those changes or take the issue to a conference committee for more debate and a final vote from the full Senate.
The bill sponsored by Rep. Rich Golick, R-Smyrna, would prevent businesses from discriminating based on race, nationality, religion or sex.
The bills were meant to give superintendents new tools to attract qualified teaching candidates in the face of a state-wide teaching shortage in subjects like math, science and special education and in urban and rural districts.
Georgians who came to the U.S.as children and have been permitted to stay under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, could only receive drivers’ licenses that explicitly state they are not citizens under a bill passed by the Senate. Among high-profile proposals on the bubble: casinos, tax cuts and an expansion of the state’s medical marijuana law.
The measure that House GOP leaders are now advancing was previously approved by the Senate before Long had a change of heart. Over that same time, lawmakers have cut the top income tax rate from 6.65 percent to 5 percent at a cost of over billion each year.
