House Republicans grill Loretta Lynch over Clinton emails

Trump, who is expected to be nominated at the Republican Party’s national convention next week, also criticized Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, as “weak, ineffective, pandering”.

Lynch’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee comes a day after House Republicans asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Clinton had lied to Congress.

Hillary Clinton says the election will be far more enjoyable now that she and Bernie Sanders are on the same side.

“Every case is different, every case has to be handled in the same way, every individual, whether they are a former secretary or anyone else, has to be reviewed with the facts and the law”, Lynch said to the committee.

The chairman of the committee, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), said Lynch’s decision “defies logic and the law” especially after FBI Director James Comey found Clinton was extremely careless with classified material on her private email server.

Lynch’s revelation of the unprecedented meeting plays directly into accusations that she and the Justice Department have given the Clintons special treatment.

“One question at this early stage is whether Clinton can hold onto the small but crucial number of Republican voters who are now supporting her or whether Trump can win them over as well as Democrats backing Johnson”, said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

“I can’t imagine what this place would be – and I can’t imagine what the country would be – with Donald Trump as our president”, she said in an interview with the New York Times.

Lynch reiterated in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee that her encounter with the former president was purely social, and there was no discussion of Hillary Clinton’s email practices or any other official business or matter before the Justice Department. Frustrated with her responses, Goodlatte admonished Lynch for an abdication of her responsibility. That meeting, occurring while the FBI investigation was still underway, lasted 30 minutes aboard a plane on a Phoenix airport tarmac.

“This defies logic and the law”, said Goodlatte of Comey’s announcement, adding that he questioned the “timing and circumstances”. Lynch said there was no need to. The attack began during protests over the police killings of Philando Castile, who was fatally shot near St. Paul, Minnesota, and Alton Sterling, who was shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers.

“As we gather here this morning, that sense of safety has been shaken by the series of devastating events that rocked our nation last week”, Lynch said in prepared remarks. They talked about his grandchildren and their travels, she said.
