House vote to send health law repeal to Obama for first time
While the U.S. House has repeatedly voted to eliminate the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding, this is the first time a measure defunding Planned Parenthood will reach President Barack Obama’s desk, due to the Senate passing it last month by 52 to 47 via the reconciliation process.

President Obama will nearly certainly veto the legislation, which passed the House 240-181, and Republicans do not have a large enough majority in Congress to override a veto.
CORNISH: All right, Ailsa, so what kind of Republican health care proposals are we likely to see out of Congress this election year?
The legislation strikes down the individual mandate, the employer mandate, and defunds Planned Parenthood for 1 year.
This bill “will sharpen contrasts between Republicans and Democrats going into a presidential election year”, says GOP consultant Matt Mackowiak. This bill passed the Senate in December, and is now headed to the White House.
Despite not having any “must-pass” bills until September, House Republicans are trying to set the tone for the year ahead with this very early, mostly symbolic vote. Just one Democrat voted for the bill and three Republicans voted against it.
After more than 50 failed attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, the GOP-controlled House was pass legislation that will undo the law.
“Since Republicans took control of the Senate past year, we promised that we would do everything in our power to reverse the President’s radical agenda that has only inflicted harm upon the people of this nation”. “Every time I think about those kids it gets me mad”, said President Barack Obama.
“Any time that you make someone in elected office take a stance, it’s extremely valuable because the American people don’t watch too much until then”, Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M. told reporters at the monthly event Conversations with Conservatives today.
EMANUEL: That’s because lawmakers recognize the President will veto the bill and they’re not expected to have the votes to override it. Speaker Ryan is urging his colleagues to come up with an ObamaCare alternative to provide a contrast.
Democrats say the Affordable Care Act has helped about 17-million Americans gain medical coverage, allowed young people to stay on their parents’ insurance plans until age 26 and stopped insurance companies from refusing to cover patients with pre-existing conditions. Ryan Saylor, a spokesman for Westerman, said in an email Wednesday, “Congressman Westerman and his colleagues in the House continue to work on a replacement bill for Obamacare”.

Republicans dodged a Democratic filibuster in the Senate by using the budget reconciliation process, which only requires a simple majority instead of 60 votes to pass. If the President vetoes this bill, he alone will bear the moral responsibility for sending our tax dollars to a group that has allegedly engaged in the selling of baby body parts for profit.
