Houston and coach Tom Herman agree in principle to contract

Herman has accomplished a lot in just one season at Houston, starting the year off 10-0, defeating two power-5 teams (Louisville and Vanderbilt), and knocking off two ranked opponents in Memphis and Navy to reach the position they’re in today.

Houston coach Tom Herman said Monday that he has agreed in principle to a new contract to stay with the Cougars.

Herman told The Houston Chronicle on Monday that details of the contract are still being finalized.

Between his work with the Ohio State Buckeyes offense last year and then Houston’s success this year, Herman looked poised to move to greener pastures in the offseason. “It was important to send statement that UH doesn’t need to be stepping stone for coaches but rather destination”.

SC has a brand new competitor within the search for its next head football coach, & it is one in that would directly impact the Gamecocks’ process. “We want him to be our hot commodity”.

At a Board of Regents meeting on November 19, the board approved a measure allowing for the renegotiating of Herman’s contract, including a new base salary of at least $3 million.
