Houston Astros No Longer Interested In Andrew Cashner
The Miami Marlins have a deal in place that will see them acquire San Diego Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner, ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting.

Andrew Cashner, 29, has a 4.76 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 16 starts this season. Usually known as sellers as the trade deadline nears, the Marlins are tied with the Cardinals for the second NL wild card.
This season continues the downward spiral for the Padres, though at least they have now taken steps toward rebuilding for the future by trading James Shields and Drew Pomeranz before shipping Cashner to the Marlins.
Miami has been aggressive in their pursuit of Cashner, and in their pursuit of bolstering starting pitching since the acquisition of Fernando Rodney in late June, also in a deal with San Diego. That probably worked out to the benefit of his current team, as the up-and-down righty has put together his best work of the season over his last three outings, permitting five runs and running up 23 strikeouts against just three walks over 17 2/3 frames.
Neither Cashner nor Rea have had especially strong seasons.
Rea is only in his second year in the majors. Rea, 26, is 5-5 with a 4.98 ERA in 99 1/3 innings. Cashner has his work cut out to reach his full potential, but the talent is there for him to be a good investment at a low cost.
Cashner would likely help the Orioles.

Given the recent injury to Wei-Yin Chen, Miami was in need of another starter.
