A police helicopter crew got more than their usual workout when one of their number left the cockpit and chased a suspect through a field on foot.

A Houston police department helicopter followed one suspect to a field.

A burglary call from a home in north Houston prompted the chase, Houston television station KPRC reported. At one point, the man is sideswiped by a police S.U.V., but keeps running.

“When the suspect showed no signs of stopping, even after being hit by a patrol auto, the flight team made a decision to land”.

With his helmet still on, Borgstedte chased after the suspect, eventually tackling him to the ground.

He then fights back and the pair begin to fight before other officers arrive to take the man into custody.

In Sky 2 video, you can see Borgstedte toss his holster and gun aside after the suspect reached for it.

Three other officers ran to assist with the arrest.
