Houston kids found dead under home; mother charged

The mother apparently tried burying the children at first but put them under a neighbor’s house when that proved too hard, Smith said.

Wesley said that he had fired Thomas after she complained to him that she was putting in too many hours and that she did not have enough time to spend with her children. A man closely connected to the family tells Eyewitness News exclusively that the Houston Police Department and Child Protective Services also paid the family a visit the day before Thomas allegedly killed her children. As they packed her belongings, he asked about her children, wanting to know where they were.

Smith says Thomas was so matter-of-fact about it that he thought she was joking. He continued to help her pack, load up the truck.

Smith said the man eventually realized something was wrong when he asked again and got the same answer.

The man then drove Thomas to a nearby police station.

Murdered were Sheborah Latrice Thomas’ seven year old son, O’Raylan (Ray Ray) Thomas and five her old daughter, Kayana Thomas told Houston Police spokesperson Kese Smith.

CPS officials said in court filings that Thomas and her children had been homeless at the time and were staying in a shelter.

“She grabbed (the daughter) by the head and forced her underneath the water until she stopped moving”, according to the affidavit.

Smith said investigators are still interviewing the woman and have not determined a motive.

With short pigtails and a wide smile, 5-year-old Kahana Thomas was reportedly a happy child.

“They told the bus driver, we’ll see you Monday”, Sophia Faulty told KHOU-TV. He said the children were killed sometime on Friday.

An attorney for Thomas was not immediately identifiable. Smith says all indications are that Thomas acted alone.

Smith told of having taken care of the children for their mother in the past.

Thomas, who police say have no history of mental illness, had just moved into her Houston home in April. Thomas is not believed to have any mental health problems.

“She made sure she kept the kids clean”, neighbor Shirley Baines told KHOU of Thomas.

When the officers investigated, they were quite shocked to find that the woman was completely right when she admitted that her two children were dead. The following morning, Thomas says she got on the bus and went to work to try to get her check, but her employer would not give her a check early so she went back home.
