Investigators allege that 30-year-old Sheborah Thomas told them that on Friday after Kayiana, 5, and Araylon, 7, came home from daycare, she fed them.

Houston police say a woman accused of killing two of her children told investigators that she drowned them and put their bodies in a trash can before placing them under a neighbor’s house.

“She was very matter-of-fact in terms of what she stated she had done.” said Kesc Smith, a spokesperson for the Houston Police Department. Thomas told the man that she was moving, and he offered to help her pack, police told WFAA. As they were driving away from Thomas’ house, the man chose to head to the closest police barracks, flagging down an officer and reporting what the woman had said.

According to an affidavit, Thomas drowned her 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in a bathtub at her home by forcibly holding their heads underwater.

Authorities revealed not being immediately aware of the mother having any history of mental health problems. Spared from murder was her 12-year-old son, who was not at home at the time. “I would have come and got these kids!” “Sheborah Thomas” children had been temporarily taken away from her by child welfare officials in 2012 after one of them had been found wandering the streets with an intoxicated homeless man.

The man initially thought she was joking and, after he was done helping her, asked again about her children.

Police say Thomas had just moved into her house in April. However, police have reportedly been called several times for “nothing major”. Not her, his kids?

Police say Thomas has a minor criminal record, but couldn’t go into detail, citing privacy laws.

“Unfortunately we are trying to raise money for the going home services of our niece and nephew Kayana and Oraylan Thomas”, she wrote on GoFundMe, explaining that the children were “siblings who were murdered by the hands of their own Mother”.

During interviews, the aunt said the children’s father was incarcerated and wasn’t at the time aware of what had happened. Patel said a “top to bottom review” of the family will be conducted.

“She made sure she kept the kids clean”, neighbor Shirley Baines told KHOU of Thomas. She was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity in July 2006 and sent to a state mental hospital.
