How Amazon’s New Video Service Stacks Up Against Netflix, Hulu
If you are in the U.S. and are now a subscriber to the Amazon Prime service, or was thinking of becoming one, then you will be interested to learn that the yearly one-off subscription price is being scrapped. Both of those come in at more than $99 for a year (approximately $108 for video-only and $132 for all the Prime benefits over 12 months).

Let us first have a look at Amazon Prime’s new plans: The first plan is where the company is making Prime Video, a video streaming service available for $9 which is a dollar less than Netflix’s monthly subscription. Amazon got started in video streaming much later than Netflix, and its catalogue of movies and television shows was initially anaemic by comparison. We’re unsure right now whether this is just limited to the United States, or whether the $10.99 tier will be coming to other territories.
But while Amazon is outpacing Netflix in potential viewers, according to Investor’s Business Daily it’s still behind Netflix on actual viewers. At $8.99, the Amazon service offers a reasonable comparison to Netflix’s price tag that ranges from $7.99 to $11.99 depending on extras like additional screens for simultaneous viewing or HD quality.
Amazon hasn’t disclosed the number of Prime subscribers, except to say that it’s in the “tens of millions”.
New customers can pay $8.99 a month to watch Amazon’s Prime video streaming service. Amazon Prime Video is the most attractive aspect of Amazon Prime along with expedited shipping. You’d think paying on a monthly basis is more flexible for you, but the annual membership is still best for most people – you’ll save 33 bucks over the course of the year, and you probably won’t go a month without using one of Amazon Prime’s many perks. But in recent years, Amazon has been hot on its trail with Golden Globe-winning programming such as Transparent and Mozart In The Jungle.
Formerly, Prime was $99 per year, couldn’t be cancelled until the year was over, and included Amazon’s ultra-fast shipping that arrived quicker than you could remember what you had ordered in the first place.
As we know, online video streaming market is rapidly growing.
