How and Why Chris Christie Endorsed Donald Trump

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey endorsed Donald Trump in the race for Republican presidential nomination on Friday only a few weeks after referring to the NY businessman as “a guy who’s playing make-believe on television” in a town hall meeting in New Hampshire.

“This is the person who will go to Washington, D.C., and be able to absolutely turn the place around”, Christie said at a news conference with Trump in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mr Rubio, still viewed as the most viable anti-Trump candidate, has based his presidential ambitions around a victory in Florida, which will vote on March 15.

“I’ve been on that stage”.

After proudly endorsing Trump, Christie said that the NY real estate mogul will “provide strong, unequivocal leadership” and would “undoubtedly” be the best candidate to beat “Hillary Clinton in November”.

Trump, who previously dismissed the importance of endorsements, said Christie is “the one endorsement that I felt very strongly about”. “Now the news for the next 24 hours is going to be about Christie and Trump”.

“Desperate people do desperate thing, s” Christie said of Rubio.

Marco Rubio received endorsements from two Republican members of the NY congressional delegation this past week, but the other six GOP delegation members have no immediate plans to disclose their own choices.

The attacks followed similar outbursts during Thursday night’s 10th Republican TV debate in Texas.

Donald Trump picked up his first congressional endorsements this week, and today he scored another major backer: one of his former rivals, Chris Christie.

Asked if his strategy to push back against Trump now comes too late, Rubio said he was fighting for the good of his party.

The backing from his vanquished primary opponent came the day after Trump found himself under fierce attack from Sens.

“I’ve said for a long time that Trump isn’t a joke, and now, he’s looking more and more likely to be the Republican nominee”, she wrote in the email.
