How AP rates the presidential race and the Road to 270
Polling shows Trump lagging significantly behind Clinton among minority voters, partially due to some of the more wayward comments he has made since entering the race.

“The major reason we are fundraising through the RNC is that a huge part of that fundraising will support a ground game, which not only benefits Donald, but benefits other people on the ticket”, said Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s national campaign finance chairman.
Conway told an interviewer back then that she believed Trump should be more transparent and release his returns.
In terms of fundraising, the Trump campaign brought in $37m for the month, compared to the $52m raised by Mrs Clinton.
The latest figures show a large sum of the Trump July spending, about 45% of the total, went to the web design and digital marketing firm Giles-Parscale, while millions also went on air travel. He said they were all on payroll as of August 1, meaning they won’t show up in campaign finance reports until September 20. Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said that the July payment was for Lewandowski’s work in June before he left the campaign. The Clinton campaign began TV advertising two months ago and has spent more than $60m so far. Nearly $26 million of her monthly expenses went to produce and air a blizzard of television and online commercials – part of what has been a $120 million ad bombardment by her campaign. This week, she’ll spend at least $10 million more on ads. By comparison, the Democratic presidential nominee spent about $38 million. He’s boasted of holding the line on his campaign spending.
The poll found Donald Trump seven points ahead of Hillary Clinton at the start of the Democratic National Convention marred by WikiLeaks revelations of a coordinated effort by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the DNC, and the mainstream media to undermine the electoral chances of opponent Bernie Sanders.
But new Federal Election Commission filings show that Trump’s campaign transferred in much less than anticipated from its joint fundraising committees with the Republican National Committee, sharply reducing his expected monthly take. Hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer, who contributed $2 million to a pro-Trump super political action committee in July, is an investor in Cambridge.
While Trump’s payroll remained a fraction of Clinton’s last month, he continued to pay one former staf member: ousted campaign manager Corey Lewandowski received his regular $20,000 monthly fee on July 6 – two weeks after he was jettisoned and had been hired by CNN as a political commentator. That’s about the same amount it had paid him each month while he was running the campaign.
