“The acceptance speech always changes over the years, but the one constant would be thanking my mother for getting me into this business 40 years ago”, he said of his mom, Skippy O’Connell, who died on the night of the 2007 Oscars. That journey is both universal and comforting and an important reminder that if you pursue the impossible, at least you’ll have good company. Especially since Casey has two pending sexual harassment cases. Affleck truly seemed surprised to beat out the likes of Denzel Washington (“Fences”) and Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”).
Conversely, Emma Stone has claimed she was holding her Best Actress announcement card, telling press backstage: “I was also holding my Best Actress in a leading role card that entire time”. In the auditorium, host Jimmy Kimmel caught up with Miranda and his mother. Made In America, the ESPN TV miniseries (which also played in theaters and at film festivals with an eye on Oscar qualifications).
The orchestra performed “La La Land” music.
