“We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution”, says Twitter“, Twitter said early Tuesday.

Twitter users took to Facebook to complain after the social media service went down on Tuesday.

Over the past 24 hours, the company has posted two tweets via the Twitter Support account acknowledging problems with the service. The outage affected both mobile and web users. The Twitter service being down is a hit to the availability, however there isn’t enough information to know if this was a malicious attack or an operational error. “Thanks for noticing. We’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon”, the message on the website read.

Users said that the service was not accessible on desktop computers but some said the social media tool worked normally when accessed from a mobile phone.

Twitter is still yet to officially confirm it has resolved the issue, or comment on what caused it.

The site has not revealed what’s behind the outage and an update said: “Some users are now experiencing problems accessing Twitter”.

Twitter has been facing growing investor anger since its blockbuster initial public offering in 2013.

Twitter has regularly suffered outages since its launch in 2006, but generally of a shorter duration.

But because Twitter is an important news source, as well as a sounding board, for many people, the shutdowns were a significant disruption in the global conversation.
