How Familiar Star Wars Rebels Spaceships Ended Up in Rogue One

“Hidden Figures”, a well-reviewed comedy-drama about pioneering African-American women in the early days of the American space program, trailed by only $200,000 with $21.8 million at 2,471 sites.

“Rogue One” took in $6.1 million on Friday and is looking at collecting an additional $24 million this weekend. Both Instagrammed a photo of The Hollywood Reporter’s tweet about Hidden Figures topping the box office.

If viewers buy it, then Episode VIII could perform better than Rogue One, but that is a gamble in a sense because general audiences are not as likely to make the distinction that Disney is attempting. This was all thanks to a number of hot new releases, including the latest #StarWars adventure #RogueOne, which has managed to top United States box office sales four weekends in a row.

“Underworld: Blood Wars” underwhelms in its debut as a major Winter storm strikes the Deep South and Northeast, as Disney’s (NYSE:DIS)’Rogue One’ races past the $900-M mark globally.

Falling to No. 3 this week is “Sing”, bringing in an estimated $19.5 million. Passengers just passed $80 million domestically and Fences passes $40 million. With the nearly $3 million it banked in limited release, it’s earned $24 million against a $25 million production budget. The film has been nominated for seven Golden Globes.

Chris Aronson, 20th Century Fox domestic distribution chief, said an “exceptionally strong Sunday” boosted Hidden Figures, in part because weather improved in the snow-filled East.
