Marvel’s Luke Cage for Netflix is one of the most highly anticipated shows coming this fall, and the minds behind the superhero tale joined together to reveal the first of a behind the scenes video series. It’s called “Luke Cage- Street Level Hero Music“.
Coker notes that the show’s use of hip-hop is best encapsulated in how it reflects the titular Luke Cage’s action sequences in the show. Given that our titular hero is from New York City, there is so much rich history for the show to dive into, spanning decades of great music from every borough. The staff is completely committed to the music of the show, with Younge saying he looks at the 13 episodes of the series as being 13 albums. “We wanted to create something great”, Younge explained. Not just for black people or minorities, just something great, that just happens to be based on our culture. “So if you really ran into Luke and then all of a sudden, boom, there’s gonna be a beat”.
The featurette includes the likes of A$AP Ferg and Method Man, who both have shared their love for comics throughout several interviews over the years. “And now it’s here, and I’m ecstatic”, he gushes.

Cage has popped up in Netflix Marvel shows on occasion, mostly in the first season of Jessica Jones, but his time will come when his first season hits Netflix on September 30, 2016.
