How Man United have changed since I left

Van Gaal has come under fire after United have failed to find the net in five of their last nine games – the latest coming against West Ham on Saturday.

Such an outcome would be disastrous for Van Gaal’s goal-shy United, and he has urged his players to take the game to Wolfsburg and prove their quality by getting the win they need to ensure their progression to the last 16.

United play Wolfsburg on Tuesday in a Champions League showdown and Van Gaal admitted they cannot fire another blank, knowing defeat could knock them out of Europe’s elite competition.

“Yes, yes, we can win”, Van Gaal said.

“Every match, we have chances and, in our European matches, we have -created more chances than in the -Premier League matches, I believe”.

“Football is about scoring goals, it’s the most important aspect, and as a manager you can’t be pleased when it is like this, you have to score”.

“I always have expectation”.

“I don’t think that we are able to win the Champions League now. We’ve created enough chances to score, so that was not the problem”.

“It’s a matter of time and I hope we can prove that tomorrow”. – CSKA will finish third ahead of PSV on head-to-head (and therefore qualify for the Europa League) with any kind of victory in the Netherlands.

“I wouldn’t say it is easier to play against them but it is different”. Maybe next year, when we strengthen our selection again, but now we have come as far as possible.

“It is a bit unusual seeing him when you only know him with the FC Bayern shirt or from the German national team”.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that he is not putting any extra pressure on Anthony Martial to break his goalscoring duck. If we can get it, then psychologically it will be good for us because we’ll get a little bit more space.

“You can not expect a 20 year old in his first year in the Premier League to score every week”.

“The reason why we have bought Schweinsteiger is because he’s a player who can lead and guide a team”, Van Gaal said.
