How Ohio State’s offense changed in one night with J.T. Barrett

Jones served as a threat just standing with a headset on. Since then, the quarterback situation for Ohio State (7-0, 3-0) has been one of the most-talked about topics in college football.

No coach is getting more adept at the sleight-of-hand quarterback game. The Buckeyes now have 39 top votes after the Buckeyes’ 49-7 rout of Rutgers.

If only Urban Meyer had it so easy with his quarterbacks.

Meyer termed it this way: Barrett creates a conflict for opposing defenses – particularly when he shows he can throw the deep ball, which he did against Rutgers. The play was reviewed and confirmed. He was good for just 84 passing yards against PSU before Barrett replaced him in the third Q. Miller rushed out to the left and ahead for 16 yards to get the ball to the two-yard line. Jones started the first seven games of the Buckeyes’ unbeaten sprint.

Ohio State’s defense has had a few ups and downs this season but the Ohio State defense is still the reason why the Buckeyes are undefeated this year and the better of the two defenses that we will see on the field on Saturday night. The only players stopping Barrett were his own teammates – receivers Michael Thomas and Jeff Greene colliding with him on separate running plays. He landed awkwardly on that play, but found his footing thereafter.

Should all three teams win out – aside from LSU losing to Ole Miss – and finish tied, the Rebels would be 2-0 in the head-to-head against the other two and thus declared West champion.

Clemson moved up three spots to No. 3 in a shake-up of the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll released Sunday.

The stadium might be a little isolated, and High Point Solutions stadium is certainly small for Big Ten standards, but I will say this: it wasn’t without atmosphere.

The stadium record for attendance (53,774) was set at last year’s Penn State game. He chose to waste time trying to get a player academically eligible by breaking university policy, instead of game planning for the season.

Under is 7-2 in Scarlet Knights last 9 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game. But after the first drive that ended in a doinked field-goal attempt by the Scarlet Knights, Joey Bosa, Adolphus Washington, Raekwon McMillan, Eli Apple, Gareon Conley and their pals increasingly clamped down.

Barrett adds a dimension to the Ohio State offense, forcing the opposition to pick its poison.

What Barrett’s insertion as the starter means is that Ohio State gets even scarier, and perhaps the Buckeyes have finally reached the level of dominance everyone expected when this season began. Against all the talent that Ohio State will have on defense, Rutgers will need to look to a host of playmakers in a two-minute situation outside of Leonte Carroo.

Former OSU QB and current H-Back Braxton Miller, who caught two balls for 55 yards, noticed a smoother and efficient run from start to finish. It’s just moves so much more efficiently with this current Ohio State personnel and Barrett at quarterback.
