How President Obama’s gun control order could impact Texas

“I am pleased to see the President taking action and addressing our nation’s crippling gun epidemic”, Esty said in a statement after Tuesday’s announcement. That’s why we are here today.

“That changed me, that day”, he said, after being introduced by Mark Barden, whose 7-year-old son was killed in the shooting. Part of his plan will result in mandatory background checks for individuals purchasing firearms online or at gun shows.

But the Obama administration acknowledged it couldn’t quantify how many gun sales would be newly subjected to background checks, or how many now unregistered gun sellers would have to obtain a licence.

“Lebeau, though, feels more laws are not the answer: “Criminals by definition do not follow the law, so gun law only targets law-abiding citizens”. That just makes sense”, O’Reilly said. The better way to look at it is a private sales loophole: If someone purchases a gun from a private seller, such as a collector, friend, or family member, no gun background check is required.

Though the steps are relatively modest in comparison, Republican lawmakers nonetheless are furious, calling Obama’s effort a unsafe overreach by the executive and a violation of the constitutional separation of powers.

A series of high-profile gun-related tragedies, the latest of which was outside of Los Angeles in San Bernardino, prompted Obama to call for the legal review.

During his speech Tuesday, the President became emotional, recalling mass shootings-especially at Sandy Hook Elementary School, an event which took the lives of 20 children and staff.

“Far too many people right now who are hearing these words are grieving the lost of a love one through gun violence”, Barden said.

Republicans have staunchly opposed new regulations on firearms, saying that they will do little to actually stem the tide of gun-related violence.

President Obama has laid out his plans to take executive action in an attempt to cut gun violence.

“We keep putting more and more restrictions on our right to bear arms, not our privilege but our right”, said Thomas, “when the Second Amendment says that right shall not be infringed”.
