How Quad Cities Water differs from Flint, Michigan Water

The city is in the midst of a nearly two-year water crisis that began when Flint switched its water source from the city of Detroit, which sourced its water from Lake Huron, to the much closer Flint River as a cost-saving measure.

As of today, residents still are advised not to drink the water without using a lead filter, and Snyder and Flint Mayor Karen Weaver are tussling over how quickly lead service lines in Flint must be dug up and replaced.

Members of the task force include: state Reps.

Senate Minority Jim Ananich, who has spent months calling for legislative hearings on the water contamination crisis in his hometown, said the hearings will need to function like an investigation to be productive.

“What happened in Flint is a tragedy, and the people who are affected deserve answers”, Cotter, R-Mount Pleasant, said in a statement. “This committee will provide the opportunity and the forum to review the causes of the crisis in Flint, ensure effective use of resources to help residents and use what we learn to prevent a similar experience in any other community”.

JM Eagle is the No. 1 pipe, profile and tubing extruder in North America with estimated sales of $2.5 billion, according to Plastics News’ latest ranking. “To be blunt, I’m working on making sure we get the information out on the executive office”.

The formation of the committee came on the same day that the Senate voted unanimously to send $30 million to Flint to help with water bills in the city.

A MI board approved another petition Monday seeking to recall Gov. Rick Snyder, citing his declaration of a state of emergency in Flint after lead leached from the pipes into the city’s water supply.

Meanwhile, in Flint, Martin Kaufman, chairman of the Earth and Resource Science department at the University of Michigan-Flint, told reporters Monday that researchers found that out of 56,000 homes and businesses in the city, 8,000 were connected to lead pipes. The $30 million dollar appropriation is on a fast track to be approved by the entire state House.
