How sky-high hype formed a storm cloud over No Man’s Sky
Of course there’s much more to adding multiplayer in a game like this and it’s not as simple as flipping a switch.

Video games website GamesRadar called it “perhaps one of the most anticipated games ever made” while Britain’s Independent newspaper said: “It’s that huge world and stunning concept that has made the game so famous, and led to perhaps the most hype ever generated for a game and appearances on American TV shows”. He also said that “No Man’s Sky” is in the same vein as “Pokémon Go”. It’s not as defined and you are doing it because it’s fun.
No Man’s Sky launched with possibly more hype than any other game in recent memory – and certainly more hype than any other indie game ever, but Sean Murray of Hello Games isn’t too anxious about raised expectations leading to disappointment. “It’s allowing people to play games the way they want them”, Murray states. But that doesn’t change the unfortunate confusion that’s developed surrounding the multiplayer aspects of the resolutely lonely, very solo experience of playing No Man’s Sky. In his words, it is completely alright if some players end up not liking No Man’s Sky after all.

“Incorrect descriptors were incorporated into the original No Man’s Sky limited edition packaging”. Unfortunately, nothing happened during the meet-up since they could not see each other.

If the servers are getting slammed with discoveries alone, it’s fair to say that Hello Games and Sony would have a hard time upholding online multiplayer-even if it was incredibly rare. The game is now available on PlayStation 4. The lack of multiplayer in No Man’s Sky was demonstrated fairly conclusively shortly after release, when two players managed to appear at the same time on the same planet, yet remain invisible to each other.
