How Ted Cruz, Donald Trump are trying to dominate Iowa

And in Des Moines last Saturday, Cruz announced the “Cruz Crew Strike Force” and opening of “Camp Cruz”, rented apartments to lodge hundreds of volunteers from across the country coming to campaign for Cruz in Iowa. He more than doubles the support of his nearest rivals. Ted Cruz is likely to win Iowa.

Sen. Ted Cruz of (R-Texas) addresses the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. “Look, I like and respect Donald Trump”, Cruz said. Still, the theory goes that Cruz now has momentum, while Trump continues to hold, or at best edge up from, his support in the high 20s. Rubio and Cruz, who have kept most under the radar amid this recent controversy, might suddenly find themselves most in the spotlight. He said he met with Santorum and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to discuss his decision, and called Trump, whom he said was “disappointed” but has “brought a lot of value to the race”.

Perkins, who heads the Family Research Council, sits at the top of a pair of sprawling social conservative networks, the Conservative Action Project and the Council for National Policy, that are the hidden hub of the forces looking to push the Republican Party further right.

Monmouth’s survey found that 30 percent of evangelical voters back Cruz, and that they do so by an nearly two-to-one margin over Carson’s 15 percent.

The debate within the GOP mirrors the broader fight between a more aggressive foreign policy, advocated by hawks, and a more reluctant policy, favored by libertarian and isolationist factions.

After the voting starts, the press will start to treat those candidates considered to have a chance as more or less equals.

For months Cruz and Trump have played nice with each other – or at least as nice as the two hard-hitting candidates know how to – with Cruz praising Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy, while the magnate has hinted that if he gets the GOP nomination he would choose Cruz to be his running mate. He has a record that could make more moderate Republicans very wary of him. The Hawkeye State, the first to hold presidential nominating contests, has caucuses on February 1. The pledge had five planks, including requiring candidates to support a constitutional amendment that would allow individual states to ban same-sex marriage, work to overturn this year’s Supreme Court ruling that invalidated gay marriage bans and reverse any Obama executive orders that have recognized same-sex couples.

“What I would try to do is make Cruz either embrace Trump or disassociate himself from Trump”, he said.

“So, my approach, much to the frustration of the media, has been to bear hug both of them and smother them with love”, Cruz is heard saying on the audio recording.
