The Russian Metrojet crash in Egypt on October 31 prompted security enhancements at airports overseas that have flights to the United States, Johnson said.
A State Department spokesman said Tuesday the point of the directive was not to discourage travel but to encourage Americans “to be very prudent, very vigilant”.
So, at major airports, TSA agents are taking more time to search bags and do security checks.
Airlines for America, the industry trade organization for the nation’s leading airlines, projected that 25.3 million passengers will travel globally on US airlines during the 12-day Thanksgiving travel period, the highest number since the recession.
Traveling during the holidays is always stressful, but in addition to crowds and delays, travelers will have to worry about security this year.
The holiday travel rush is underway! “There could be a little longer wait times just due to the amount of people coming through but the safety procedures really aren’t going to impact us that much, it’s more at the bigger airports”, said Houseman. The increased number of travelers is expected to stay consistent through the first week of December, the agency says. The organization said about 300,000 more people will be on the move this year compared to Thanksgiving 2014.
If you are planning to fly during the holiday you can expect longer lines when you head through security checkpoints. Whether you’re headed out this time around or next month, 2 Wants to Know found a way to get you through the security check point at the airport, either faster or with less frustration.
The latest Orbitz Insider Index has OIA seventh among the busiest airports for Thanksgiving 2015. The limit is one zip-top bag per passenger.
The parking lots were quickly filling up at DIA.

What to do: This is not necessarily a deal-breaker for getting through security but you will be questioned and this will take a few minutes so get to the airport early.
