With the officially scheduled release of iOS 9 this September, the release of iOS 8.4 was a curious move by the tech giant, and some didn’t really see the point of it since we are already just months away from the release. This concern was short-lived though, as jailbreak developers confirmed that their exploits that were developed for iOS 8.3 were still working in the new firmware update.

However, that’s no longer the case, and now Mac users can join in on the jailbreaking fun with PP’s new jailbreak tool.

The tool is expected to address bugs that were found in the iOS 8.4 jailbreak and fix a bothersome error that would cause users to only get up to 60 percent of their installation of the jailbreak. Unfortunately, it appears as though 8.4.1 may patch the current iOS 8.4 jailbreak, meaning it likely won’t be possible to jailbreak 8.4.1 untethered with TaiG – truly sad news for jailbreak fans.

Also, from Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, Turn Passcode Off. If you don’t know about PP, they’re another jailbreak tweak who essentially released an iOS 8.4 jailbreak tool first, but was accused of stealing it from TaiG.

Uncheck the Install PP Helper on the PP jailbreak window.

Though it’s still recommended that you use TaiG, the video we’ve embedded will walk you through all the steps required to jailbreak 8.4 on OS X. You will be able to jailbreak your iPhone and iPad with a Mac running OS X 10.7 or above.

Now, we’re ready to jailbreak your iPhone using your Mac.

Ta da! Don’t forget to update Cydia to the very latest version (link).

Next, plug in your iPhone and the tool should recognize it when it’s plugged in.

Next, click on the Jailbreak button and click Continue.

You’re now successfully jailbroken!

Let the tool do its thing. Once it’s done, your iOS device will reboot and you will be taken to the Setup page.
