How to keep your kids safe on Bonfire Night

Scientists at the University of Birmingham have discovered that there is a sharp reduction in visibility caused by fireworks and bonfires on Guy Fawkes’ night.

Stuart Millington, senior fire safety manager, said: “Safety at this time of year is the responsibility of us all. Council staff work hard to ensure the event is full of exciting features such as the unbelievable firework display and the fantastic setting helps to make it a memorable event for all”. It’s one of the biggest free events in London, attracting as many as 100,000 people annually.

There are plenty of options all over the United Kingdom most of which offer not only spectacular sparks but blazing bonfires, delicious food and entertainment for all the family.

Cost: Tickets are £6 each, but any group of four can buy them in advance for £20. Tickets, priced £4-5, can be bought from the junior and infant schools for a discounted price or on the night. Tickets can also be purchased on the gate.

On the night there will a funfair, barbecue and bar.

There will be live music from local artists and a variety of hot food stalls. Tickets on the day are £5 for adults and £4 for children.

It is almost Bonfire Night again, when Britain marks the foiling of the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to blow up the Houses of Parliament, masterminded by the most notorious terrorist in English history, Guy Fawkes.

In West Dorset there will be a bonfire and firework display at the Marquis of Lorne Pub, Nettlecombe, tonight from 7pm. Suggested donation – £5 per auto or £1 per pedestrian.

A community fireworks display in North Canterbury has been cancelled because the fire risk is too great.

The event, which takes place on the land off Crowberry Lane, Barton, on Friday, November 6, starts at 6pm, with the fireworks show starting at 7.15pm.

Gates open at 5.30pm, with a children’s display at 6.30pm, bonfire at 7pm and the main firework display at 7.30pm.

Free parking is available at Deepings Leisure Centre and entry is £5 for adults and £3 for children.
