How to make Chrome your default Windows 10 browser

In case you haven’t had the chance to read Mozilla’s response to Microsoft’s Windows 10 web browser, here are some of the main ideas that CEO Chris Beard has expressed in his official letter. While the choice can still be made, Beard points out that it takes far more clicks, more scrolls and navigating through more information in order to get the job done. All a user has to do is open the Firefox browser, click on the option to make it their default browser that immediately pops up and then confirm their selection.

“As we’ve shared, our top priority has been ensuring that everyone has a great upgrade experience, so, we are carefully rolling out Windows 10 in phases”, said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Windows and Devices Group, in a blog post.

When Windows 10 launched, Mozilla published a guide on how to reset the operating system’s default settings to choose Firefox over Edge. Until the end of 2014, they also included a “browser choice” ballot that popped up, asking which browser the user would like to use. With Windows 10, all apps – both Classic Windows apps and Universal Windows apps – will be unable to invoke a prompt to change your defaults, only Windows. Since CEO Satya Nadella took the helm last year, the company has been streamlining its efforts and focusing on its strengths. He noted that the “upgrade process is mostly painless”, but cautioned that the addition of Cortana to Windows 10 may fall flat for users, since it’s “better suited for smartphones”.

Yet overriding Windows customers’ existing settings and making Edge the default browser harkens back to the 1990s, when the United States brought an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft for restricting customers’ browser choices.

We designed Windows 10 to provide a simple upgrade experience for users and a cohesive experience following the upgrade.

The issue here is who ever has Mozilla as their default browser, should change it after they instal the Windows 10, because Edge browser of Microsoft will be the default browser of the new OS. The tech firm said users have the choice to make default settings including “web browsing” while upgrading. Mozilla’s browser managed to capture a Web traffic share of 12 percent in June, well below 58.1 percent grabbed by IE. Unfortunately, it didn’t result in any meaningful progress, hence this letter. In short, changing your internet browser is a lot harder and ambiguous.

Windows 10 also possesses the same native antivirus software known as Windows Defender that is present in Windows 8. Microsoft is not pushing the update to all computers and the Redmond based company has said it might take months for everyone to get pushed the update.
