Two more Emmy nomination categories will be enticing to watch in 2016. “SNL” also takes the prize as the most nominated show in Emmy history, with 199 nominations overall.
They may not have scored in the lead actor or actress in a drama category-mainly due to the vast number of characters starring in it- but Game of Thrones has absolutely emerged as the frontrunner for quite a few accolades. With a total of 22 nominations, the first season of the show examined the historic murder trial involving football legend O.J. Simpson, who was deemed not guilty of killing his wife amidst a controversial trial. HBO already leads the field after winning 16 Creative Arts Emmys last weekend – nine alone from Game Of Thrones, which won a record 12 Emmys in 2015. The show is our favorite for at least three awards so put the champagne on ice – especially if they do it on a Kit Harrington win for Jon Snow’s return from the dead in the Supporting Actor category. She has won it the past two years. Tarji P. Henson from Empire, and Keri Russell, who stars in The Americans, are potential winners in 2016 as well. “PREACH!” speech of the show.
The most star-studded category is perhaps lead actor in a limited series or TV movie, which includes six-time Emmy victor Bryan Cranston, who has received rave reviews for anchoring HBO’s Lyndon B. Johnson biopic “All the Way”.
After four seasons, this year marks the first year that “The Americans” has scored an outstanding drama series nominee.
You can download your very own ballot to make your predictions and follow along with the show to see how many you got right. Both programs are prime examples of the ambitious and groundbreaking television that John Landgraf and FX have been producing for years. For this, a 360-degree camera will be placed in the orchestra pit during the show, so you’ll get an up close view of the stage. That means nearly half of those nominated between the two categories will be from the show.
Drama shows will have stiff competition for this year’s Emmy nominations. As our senior editor Joyce Eng already pointed out, this contest will come down to whether Emmy voters are feeling “cool and cerebral” or “hot and popular”.
If you live in the USA, you can watch the Emmys live on television over on ABC.
