How to watch The global, Valve’s very big $18 million Dota 2 tourney

In total Valve raised $17,971,305 for the prize pool, making this year’s event the largest e-sports tournament in history – at least until The worldwide 2016, anyway. Teams from around the world will gather in Seattle for The global – the annual championship for multiplayer online battle arena (Moba) game Dota 2. The tournament, which sold out in less than an hour, is the most anticipated Dota 2 tournament of the year, which brings together the best teams the game has to offer.

The limits will rise to an eye watering $100,000 (£ 64,000) for the Grand Final on August 8th.

Also, if you’re looking to take your Dota 2 global excitement on the road, remember that many bars across the country are broadcasting today’s matches.

While Johnson said that “We’re excited about the Majors because it’ll be a really healthy thing for the competitive scene”, he also added that Valve won’t be as involved with the Majors as they were with the worldwide, as they recently announced that they will be relying on “external partners”. The champions will get a 36% share of the prize pool (currently around $6.5m).

Day 1 of competition opens with a bang as LGD Gaming from China faces Team Empire from Russian Federation in a best-of-three Winner’s Bracket series. The four runner-ups of each regional qualifier will also compete for two wildcard spots at The global prior to the main event. “DOTA 2”, Valve’s most-played game, follows this concept and it has paid back as it is “one of the company’s most profitable properties”.
