How will the Cowboys get offensive production without Dez Bryant?

This week, with the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Philadelphia Eagles, we discuss the game with Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation.

Even though it’s Week 2, it’s an important game for the two teams expected to battle for the division crown. It was part of a 21-7 second half comeback.

Next week will be another eventful one in the NFC East, as the rival Cowboys and Eagles will be facing off for the first time in 2015.

Kelly usually prefers a more balanced approach.

– Week 2 @ San Francisco 2011: Jon Kitna starts second half for Dallas. QB Sam Bradford had career-high 36 completions in opener vs. Falcons…. So he’s got a long haul ahead of him, so he’s got to be patient with this thing. Against the Falcons, Sproles averaged at least 10 yards every time he touched the ball. The Eagles defense did get a few interceptions themselves off of the Falcons Matt Ryan, one a very spectacular pick by linebacker Kiko Alonso.

BTB: The running game was obviously an issue last week. “We have to learn from it and get it corrected”.

BGN: The run game seemed to suffer due to poor blocking, especially from Philadelphia’s guards Andrew Gardner and Allen Barbre. The Eagles were also favored to win that game. I do indeed respect the game of Dez Bryant.

The fans – ribbing each other in a good-natured way – love to pop off that “the (insert your favorite team’s name here) suck”, but in reality, all National Football League teams are fully stocked with world-class athletes. I believe they were over-hyped but that doesn’t mean they still won’t be good this year.

“Joseph Randle’s numbers were more impressive than McFadden’s, but I don’t see workhorse qualities and he isn’t a tackle-breaking runner”, wrote Williamson. Kelly has earned the benefit of the doubt as a coach thus far despite being unproven as a general manager. “You have to let the game play itself out”. This could leave the Dallas pass rush in a hard position. Problem is that matches last season’s loss total while potentially losing some vital conference games during that time. Beasley and Dunbar could cause problems all night with short passes that tire out the defense, but they should be able to slow and stop them enough to win the game.

For Dallas, the strategy is simple: air it out.

There is no question that Kelly is going to give his star running back plenty of carried throughout the game. The Eagles have to pound the rock early and often. “The idea is to have a balanced offense and attack in a lot of different ways, both running and passing”. Clearly the secondary can’t be left to its own devices quite yet, even though they’re improved over the sludge the team had past year .

NOTES: The Cowboys added OT Darrion Weems to their practice squad two days after waiving him and waived rookie RB Gus Johnson to make room for Weems.
