Howard Set To Leave Everton

Not only will more people here in Colorado focus on the Rapids with Howard in town, but people all over the world will be tuned into what the Rapids are doing. “This will always be my team and my club”, Howard told Everton’s official website. Since their unbelievable run to the MLS Cup Championship in the 2010 campaign, the Rapids honestly have been one of the worse franchises in the MLS in terms of on the field play and building a team off the field. He was the starting goalkeeper for the USMNT in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, holding firm in a vital 2-2 draw by saving a penalty from Eder versus Portugal that sent them to the Round of 16 in the tournament. He took home the Golden Glove as the best keeper in the latter event.

United States goalkeeper Tim Howard is to leave Everton at the end of the current season and return to Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids, the two clubs announced on Sunday. Howard was voted CONCACAF Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013, ’14 and ’15. He also represented Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the UEFA Champions League. When I spoke to my family, when I spoke to [Everton manager] Roberto Martinez and the chairman [Bill Kenwright] as well, I thought the decision, and the timing more than anything – because in life it’s all about timing – and obviously with my discussions with Colorado, it just seemed to be the right move. At present he has been featured in 415 games for the Liverpool-based club. After a few seasons at Manchester United, Howard joined Everton on loan in the 2006-07 season and became a full time member of the club in February of 2007.

He will join the Rapids after their season ends this summer. “We believe he can be an ambassador not only for our club but for the sport of soccer in the U.S. We are truly excited that Tim is a part of our future and on behalf of everyone associated with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, welcome him to our club”.
