Although it was never secret nor very popular, HP has chose to work together with SanDisk and make a few money out of “Memristor”. Their immediate target is for server memory and storage, where they hope to produce chips that will not only be tremendously faster, but also offer an equal amount of durability advantage over flash and be cheaper to run, due to lower power requirements. Announcing their partnership on Thursday, the companies said their forthcoming chips will be 1,000 times faster than flash memory, which is commonly used in smartphones and is rapidly moving into corporate data centers.
Storage Class Memory technology will focus on addressing the massive streams of data that are generated by social networking, security, mobility, large scale data analytics, cloud services, and the Internet of Things (IoT). ‘Our partnership to collaborate on new SCM technology solutions is expected to revolutionise computing in the years ahead.
