HP Launches Quad Core Workstation Ultrabook
An entirely new model, dubbed the ZBook Studio, targets the mobile workstation market as “the first quad-core workstation ultrabook”.

The mobile workstations for HP are part of a broader overhaul of the lineup.
Like the Studio mobile workstation, the HP ZBook 15 and 17 G3 are available with a 4K touchscreen display and can be powered by Intel Xeon processors.
I got a few hands-on time with the ZBook Studio at HP’s launch – though as it was a pre-production model (it’s out in December), I wasn’t allowed to benchmark it. The ZBook Studio may be a workstation, but the company wants customers to admire it for its sleek design and for how conveniently it lets them take all of their work anywhere. It has a 1080p screen, up to 1.5TB of storage and can be configured with an AMD FirePro graphics processor, which competes with Nvidia’s Quadro. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see the other ZBook family members; the 15u will be available in January starting at $1,099, as will the ZBooks 15 and 17, but pricing for those models has not yet been confirmed. It offers Intel Xeon processors, a dual 1 TB HP Z Turbo Drive G2 option, up to 32 GB of RAM, dual Thunderbolt 3, and an optional HP DreamColor UHD display (or full HD touch display). It can run on an Intel Xeon desktop-strength processor, as well as Intel Core i7 SkyLake processors, with up 32GB of RAM.
Prices and release dates are not yet known for the HP Book 15 and 17 models.
HP ZBook 15 is the next generation of the world’s top-selling mobile workstation.(9) This thin and light, portable powerhouse was redesigned inside and out, and is 27 percent thinner and 7 percent lighter than the previous generation.
The top-of-the line ZBook 17 also can be equipped with Nvidia’s new M500M Quadro graphics for heavy-duty GPU rendering and calculations.
HP ZBook 17 features a 67 percent(10) increase in battery life and the 17.3-inch diagonal workstation is now also 25 percent thinner and 11 percent lighter than its predecessor.
“Apple continues to abandon the professional market, and leaves a huge expansion opportunity for our business in media and entertainment, video production, 3D animation, and even in a situation where broadcast is looking to upgrade to a more reliable solution”, HP VP Jeff Wood said during the event. External ports are plentiful on the ZBook Studio and include three USB 3.0, two Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 1.4 and GbE connections. The ZBook Dock arrives in December, starting at $229.
