HR by Marlins’ Realmuto negated; he passes teammate on bases

Fernandez pitched well enough to overcome a teammate’s home run that was negated due to a baserunning blunder.

Anyway, the game went on as the Marlins had a 1-0 lead.

The circumstances were identical Monday after Realmuto’s soaring 409-foot drive “splashed down” in the faux water at the base of the home run sculpture in center field, only to be sunk by confusion on the basepaths.

After the review, Realmuto was ruled out and Ozuna’s run counted as Realmuto was credited with an RBI single.

Check out how it all unfolded.

Like Tejada in 2006, Ozuna misjudged the ball and retreated to first to tag up.

Brewers reliever Michael Kirkman made his Milwaukee debut in the bottom of the seventh, and he immediately gave up a run when Derek Dietrich led off with a triple into the right-field corner and came in to score when Rivera’s relay throw hit the Marlins’ second baseman and caromed out of play.

Morris then struck out Villar for his first career save.

Miami capped the scoring in the eighth on a Dietrich RBI single off Carlos Torres.

He fittingly walked the first batter he faced before setting down Villar to close the book on the Fish’s 12th win in 15 games. Ryan Braun almost cleared the bases when his deep fly ball was caught by right fielder Giancarlo Stanton up against the wall. Brewers 3B Aaron Hill entered Monday’s game riding a nine-game hitting streak, but manager Craig Counsell elected to rest him and not put him in the starting lineup Monday….

The big hit never came for the Brewers.

Both runners rounded the bases and scored, but Counsell quickly issued a challenge. “That was our best chance against Fernandez”.

In that instance, when the Iron Horse was called out for passing a teammate on the bases, in 1931, it kept Gehrig from winning the home run title outright (he ended up sharing the crown with Babe Ruth).

“Overall I think I did OK”, Peralta said. He struck out four and walked two. Domingo Santana (shoulder tightness) was examined by a doctor in Milwaukee and remains day to day to rejoin the starting lineup. RHP Zach Davies (0-3, 6.98) is scheduled to start for the Brewers.
