90 days is generally considered a pretty decent timeline for a manufacturer to get a new major Android release out after it hits Nexus devices, and that seems to be about what we’re looking at here.
The company confirmed it had received a final version of the software from Google, and will soon be ready to start rolling it out to devices.
This week has been filled with lots of Android 7.0 Nougat-y goodness, and the train isn’t showing any sign of stopping. Instead of a Nexus device, the LG V20 will be arriving as the first device to run on the Android 7.0 Nougat from the box. But not all models are set to be updated.
“Noticed these interesting statistics for one of my apps this morning.115 of my users are already on 7.1 and 4 of them are on Android O (which I’m assuming are Googlers)”, shared the developer via Reddit. Update for these devices should already be available by now. Of course, these handsets will need to be unlocked and not linked to a specific network if you wish to receive the update.
Known for the slow roll out of Android OS update, owners of the following Samsung devices would have to expect Nougat by December or January: Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and Samsung Galaxy J3. Following the emergence of several severe Android vulnerabilities a year ago, some, though not all, Android device manufacturers said they would begin making monthly over-the-air software updates.

One of the many welcomed new features in Android Nougat is the ability to reply to notifications in a pop-up without having to switch applications, a feature we’ve come to label “Quick Reply”.
