HTC introduces mid-range One A9s smartphone at Ifa

The company did introduce a rather interesting phone about a year ago, called the HTC One A9, which should have represented a new, clean slate for the company.

HTC didn’t reveal pricing and availability yet – those details will vary by market – but has mentioned that the One A9s will launch globally, including the U.S. The phone will definitely be more affordable than last year’s $499 launch price of the One A9, which is obvious given the hardware on offer and the competition in this segment.

On the outside, we’re looking at the same general design that got HTC in hot water with critics for the high resemblance with Apple’s iPhone. As you’ll notice, the device is made out of metal, and the home button is placed below the display, while it also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. It will be available in a choice of Cast Iron and Aqua Silver colours.

Storage comes in either 16 or 32GB configurations, which can be augmented via the microSD slot, up to 2TB (assuming you can find a card that large). The battery is 2,300 mAh in size, a bump from the 2150 mAh unit on the A9 that was achieved by making the A9s slightly thicker at 7.99 millimeters.

The leaked images uploaded on the website suggest that the hardware design of the upcoming smartphone is same as its predecessor except for camera lenses, flash, and sensors, for they will be repositioned in the new phone.

“The real sticking point here is the HTC One A9S price. or lack of one, with the brand simply telling us “[The One A9S] will be very competitively priced at the mid-tier”.
