HTC Product and Service Director of EMEA Graham Wheeler made the announcement on the social networking site Twitter.

All the major U.S. carriers, save for AT&T, rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in March this year, while AT&T released the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update.

There are speculations that both the One M8 flagships from HTC will not receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, as the Taiwanese company will instead directly roll out the Android M upgrade for both the handsets later this year.

In case any custom recovery like TWRP is installed on the device, users will have to remove it and replace it with the stock recovery to be able to install an over-the-air update.

HTC CEO Peter Chou shows the new HTC One M8 phone during a launch event in New York March 25, 2014. HTC One M9 users, on the other hand, were left hanging. This is quite odd considering devices on the US carriers are usually one of the last in line to get Android updates. The device will skip the 5.1 Lollipop update and will go straight to the 5.1.1 version.

The big news of the week is the Stagefright security vulnerability which can auto-execute code with near root access by simply receiving an MMS message.

Since then, Google has already looked into the issue and is reported to be rolling out further bug fixes to Nexus units next week, with Sprint and Samsung taking the lead. These things usually take around a couple of weeks to completely rollout, but you will get your Android 5.1 Lollipop goodness before long!
