Huddersfield appoint former Borussia Dortmund man as new boss despite
Wagner’s appointment to the Huddersfield job comes after widespread rumors that he was set to join former Dortmund colleague Jurgen Klopp’s coaching staff at Liverpool.

Wagner was Klopp’s best man at the Liverpool boss’ wedding in 2005 and the German was Wagner’s godfather to one of his daughters, too, so there is a good relationship between the pair.
During his time in charge of Dortmund’s U23s, he established an impressive reputation for the high-intensity, pressing style of play for which Klopp has become renowned.
The length of Wagner’s deal has not been announced and he will not officially begin his role until Monday, meaning academy manager Mark Lillis will take charge for the derby clash with Leeds United on Saturday.
Huddersfield sacked Chris Powell on Wednesday following their 2-2 draw with Reading and the Yorkshire club claimed they wanted “a change of direction and a new approach”.
He praised Wagner for having a “winning approach” and said he “sets his teams up on the front foot”.
Huddersfield Town – three-time English champions in the 1920s – now sit 18th in the 24-team Championship, with 15 points through their first 15 games.
And he added: “He also understands and believes in the club’s plan of producing and developing its own players”. He is very passionate and totally committed.
Wagner, 44, makes the move to England after four years managing Borussia Dortmund II, the German powerhouse’s reserve team.

“Perhaps most importantly, he has trust in young players, which it attractive to us. He lives and breathes football and that fits the club”.
