Huge police operation underway after BOMB THREAT at Amsterdam airport — TERROR ALERT

One person has been arrested after Amsterdam’s Schipol airport was partially evacuated due to an unspecified security alert. Dutch police said no unsafe substances have been found at the airport.

The suspect was immediately arrested by heavily armed, armored, ski-mask wearing, military police, tipped off by a visitor who thought the man was suspicious.

Ministry of Justice and Security spokesman Lodewijk Hekking said the second arrest took place at Leiden Central Station about a 20-minute train ride from the airport.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has been evacuated after reports of a suspicious package.

The alarm was raised after a call alerting police to a “suspicious situation” around 9:30 pm (1930 GMT Tuesday).

Earlier, Ellwanger said the man was arrested at the airport’s bus station and an operation was ongoing there to search the area, which is outside the airport’s main terminal.

Ellwanger didn’t give details on the nature of the situation.

Although no flights were canceled or delayed, passengers are still concerned about the incident, which came weeks after the Brussels airport bombing that killed 32 individuals.

Dutch police carried out raids in Rotterdam last month, uncovering about 45kg of ammunition in one apartment linked to a foiled attack on France. Two Algerians arrested with Bahri have been remanded in custody in the Netherlands.

Schiphol is Europe’s fourth-largest airport, and welcomes some 55 million passengers through its gates every year.
