Huggies responds to claims of glass shards on baby wipes

A Suffolk County mom says she was shocked to discovered small shards of glass in her Huggies baby wipes.

The Facebook video shows a concerned mother going through a bag of Huggies baby wipes.

Melissa Estrella’s video was uploaded Thursday morning and had been viewed almost 6.4 million times by about noon on Friday. “Now, I know why my daughter hates having her butt, hands and face wiped!”

While Huggies is not denying that there was something odd-looking visible within the wipes in question, the company states that what Estrella and subsequent parents have detected are not glass.

“If you can see all of this stuff shining on the wipes, that is all glass”, she said in the video.

Huggies’ Facebook and Twitter pages were soon inundated with comments from consumers. Whether or not you believe those who say they found glass is up to you, but still should be of some concern. I also rubbed the wipe up and down my arm for about 3 or 4 mins about as hard as I could.

Huggies is responding individually to most of the hundreds of parents commenting online. “I just want to get the word out about this”.

Huggies said it does not use glass in the making of its wipes, but it is investigating the reports. Whether you’re talking about Huggies wipes or any other infant care product, parents need to be personally diligent about product safety for the well-being of their children. “We take any concerns about our products very seriously and we are working directly with this parent to learn more about what happened and how we can help”.
