Set it San Francisco, it follows forensic neuropsychiatrist Eldon Chance (Laurie) as he reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and risky world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness.

However, Chance soon discovers she has an abusive husband – who also happens to be a ruthless police detective.

Well, now Hugh Laurie will be strapping on a stethoscope once more.

Playing yet another maverick doctor, unsurprisingly, means Laurie – who is also the show’s executive producer – will be subjected to comparisons about his performance in House. Following a deal with Comedy Central that brought episodes of shows including Inside Amy Schumer and Broad City to the service, Hulu has signed a deal with Sony for rights to some movies and TV series including Dawson’s Creek, Party of Five and The Shield.

Abrahamson, whose credits also include What Richard Did and Garage, will be working alongside Alexandra Cunningham, a screenwriter who worked on Desperate Housewives and the American adaptation of Prime Suspect. Does the concept of his new show interest you?

Laurie was recently seen as Tom James on HBO’s Veep in 2015. Now that he has found it, Laurie is reportedly taking an active role in the show’s development and “will be involved in every aspect of production”.

“Chance” will have two seasons with 20 episodes each and is set to premiere later this year.

In addition to marking Laurie’s long-awaited return to television, Chance marks Hulu’s latest big push into high-end original content. The streaming company just earned its first ever Golden Globe nomination for its series, Casual.

No release date has been announced as of yet for Chance, but Hulu will likely start production in spring of 2016 and debut the series towards the end of the year.
