Hull have announced the signing of Tottenham and England midfielder Ryan Mason for a club-record fee, which Sky sources understand is £13m.

That means that the price is at least £10 million – which is what they paid Palermo for Abel Hernandez two years ago – though media reports have claimed the fee is actually £13 million.

Having been at White Hart Lane since the age of eight, the last two seasons have seen him make a big impression at first team level and the 25-year-old admits that has been key in his development as a player.

“I’m delighted and excited to be here”.

Mason has become the fourth Spurs player to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s side on a permanent basis this summer and is keen to get started at his new club. Their two new signings, however, combined with six points from three games and the impressive work so far of caretaker manager Mike Phelan has led to optimism they can survive in the Premier League despite their hard preparations for the season.

“Having spoken to the people up here, I didn’t need any convincing”. A fresh challenge is now about to begin for the Enfield-born star, who was capped by England as recently as March 2015.

“It’s great that everything got finalised so quickly and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the lads and get started now”. “Of course, I’m an Englishman and I want to play for my country”.

“You’ve got to take a look at the characters within this squad”.
