Hull City caretaker boss Mike Phelan has dismissed reports he is close to succeeding Steve Bruce as manager and says he remains far apart on an agreement with the club.

Hull defeated Leicester on the opening day before winning at Swansea, and were only denied a point against Manchester United thanks to Marcus Rashford’s injury-time strike.
Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan has insisted that his team should not be regarded as favourites for their away trip to Burnley.
It took a last-gasp goal from Marcus Rashford for Phelan’s former club Manchester United to leave the KCOM Stadium with the points before the global break, and Hull belatedly moved into the transfer market amid takeover turmoil.
Fellow new recruits, goalkeeper David Marshall, midfielders Markus Henriksen and James Weir, plus forward Dieumerci Mbokani are also in contention, while Phelan will assess Abel Hernandez following the striker’s return from global duty with Uruguay.
“Those discussions will continue”. “We had a discussion last week and we’re still talking about it”.
Sterling, 21, had a poor Euro 2016 with England but scored twice against West Ham in August – the same number of goals as he managed in his previous 25 Premier League appearances. We’ve had a good start to the season.
“The Burnley game is a big one”, said Phelan. We move on to the next game and hopefully iron out these small issues.
‘The players needed some support; we have that now, to some degree. “Why wouldn’t I want to be sitting in this chair more often?”

“That hasn’t changed. The only thing that has altered is the fact that I’ve sat down and spoken with the owner and we haven’t come to any conclusion yet”.
