Hulu will offer live-streaming service in 2017
In an article on The New York Times, Hopkins was quoted stating this is the next logical step for Hulu to provide content its customers are yearning for. Hulu will offer a live-streaming service in 2017 that will offer a mix of cable and broadcast programming as well as news, sports and events. Hopkins also added that the service would let viewer watch their favorite shows and cheer for their favorite teams.

The CEO made the announcement at the Hulu Upfronts in NY, reports TechCrunch.
“We’re going to fuse the best of linear television and on-demand in a deeply personalized experience optimized for the contemporary, always-connected television fan”, Hopkins said. Just as the case is with other online TV streaming services, a traditional cable subscription will not be required.
PlayStation Vue, for example, has plans that start at per month, while Sling TV plans start at per month.
The Santa Monica streaming service is the latest media company to get into the so-called “skinny bundle” business, which refers to the idea of creating slimmer TV packages with fewer channels that are cheaper than standard cable packages. And Sony has been expanding its PlayStation Vue streaming service.
Hulu, which competes with Netflix and Amazon on the SVOD front, is announcing at its Upfront presentation in NY today that it is nearing 12 million subscribers in the US amid annual growth rate of more than 30%.
This could quickly bring NFL games, MLB games, NBA games and more all to Hulu, but there has been no official word on exactly what shows and sports will be included.
