Huma Abedin announces separation from Anthony Weiner after latest sexting revelations

In this photo taken January 5, 2011, then-New York Rep. Anthony Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, an aide to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are pictured after a ceremonial swearing in of the 112th Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Photos published by The New York Post late Sunday show the man completely and others feature Weiner’s face, but the photo of the boy has been partially blurred out, and the woman’s face is blurred out in her photos.

Weiner resigned his seat in Congress in 2011 after it became known that he was sending Internet messages with sexual content and photographs to different women, and in 2013 that same behavior ended his aspirations to become the mayor of New York City.

Abedin, 40 and now vice chairwoman of the Clinton Campaign, married Weiner in 2010.

But in what was seemingly the last straw, on Monday, The New York Post splashed the latest private communications of the former congressman on its front page, but this time, the couple’s child was drawn into the story.

At the time, Abedin stood by her husband, but on Monday she said they were separating.

Abedin said she and her husband, former congressman Anthony Weiner, “remain devoted to doing what is best for our son” and asked for privacy.

On the streets of D.C., people were shocked.

‘I know Anthony Weiner well, and she will be far better off without him, ‘ Mr Trump said.

“People should focus on the economy, healthcare and jobs this sexting scandal is just a distraction from bigger issues”, said another person. Republican Candidate Donald Trump quickly commented on the scandal.

Trump called Abedin’s decision “wise” and has even recently called her soon-to-be ex-husband a “sleazeball and pervert”.

The photos were part of a months-long exchange between Weiner and the woman and numerous messages were sexual in nature, according to the Post report. It’s just another example of Hillary Clinton’s bad judgment. “It is possible that our country and its security have been greatly compromised by this”, he said in the statement.

Now, Clinton’s campaign finds itself unable to duck unwanted attention drawn to Abedin, a 40-year-old aide closer to Clinton than anyone else on her payroll.

Asked by The Times this month whether he was still engaging in the activities that had foiled his political career, Weiner replied, “I’m not going to go down the path of talking about any of that”.

The Post story said Weiner had sent lewd photos of himself to another woman while his wife was campaigning with Clinton. But now that his campaign of bluster and bigotry isn’t faring well with general election voters, he is desperately grasping at anything he thinks will make a dent in Hillary Clinton’s polling lead.

Weiner served in the US Congress, representing his district in New York City from 1999 to 2011. Less than 24 hours later, Abedin announced their separation.

A friend of Abedin, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the breakup, said she was with her young son, Jordan, and her family members in the Hamptons during the weekend.

Yet Abedin nearly never speaks publicly, meaning her work for Clinton is opaque to voters.
