We don’t know if the unidentified – ugh – “busty brunette” from the Post is the woman referenced by Leathers, but we do know one thing: Abedin, who is Hillary Clinton’s top aide, dumped Weiner this morning. “During this hard time, I ask for respect for our privacy”, Abedin added.
“After the New York Post published its story Sunday night revealing Mr. Weiner’s latest texts, several allies of Mrs. Clinton said they contacted campaign advisers to express frustration and anger with Mr. Weiner, asking whether the campaign or Ms. Abedin would respond to the Post story or take action”, reports the New York Times.
The sexting partner of the New York Congressman in his 2013 scandal, Leathers spoke out earlier this month to warn that Weiner had not given up his unfaithful ways even after getting caught up in two consecutive scandals that ruined his political career.
The photos were part of a months-long exchange between Weiner and the woman and numerous messages were sexual in nature, according to the Post report. The first time the former congressman got in trouble for something similar was in 2011, when he resigned from Congress for sending explicit messages over Twitter to a woman and elaborately lying about it.
Abedin must have thought so too, because much of the film followed both of them as Weiner tried to make a political comeback and become New York City’s mayor.
Abedin’s marriage has also come under fire from Clinton’s Republican opponent Donald Trump, who immediately seized on the aide’s marital split to accuse Clinton of “bad judgment”.
And continued scandals surrounding her now-estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, have further thrust her into the public eye. One picture accidentally appeared on his Twitter account.
She was a personal aide to Mrs Clinton during her successful 2000 campaign for the US Senate.
The 41-year-old Abedin, now vice chairwoman of Clinton’s campaign, began working for the former first lady while a student at George Washington University in 1996. Especially since she had very publicly stated, after his first round of online escapades, that she and Weiner, who hadn’t yet celebrated their first wedding anniversary, were going to stay married and work on their relationship.
“With Huma, her grace, her intellect and her humility have been unmatched as I’ve watched her go from an aide to an adviser to one of the people at the top of my campaign”, Clinton said in a recent profile of Abedin in Vogue.
Over the years, many people have scratched their heads about why Hillary Clinton stayed in her marriage to Bill after the Monica Lewinsky scandal and that she did, ultimately, “stand by her man”, notwithstanding what Hillary said in that 1992 60 Minutes interview. “I’ve never seen a staffer targeted like that”, he said.

“I only worry for the country in that Hillary Clinton was careless and negligent in allowing Weiner to have such close proximity to highly classified information”, added Trump. And Abedin herself has been thrust in the middle of the race, as questions about whether she helped Clinton Foundation donors gain special access have arisen recently, with a spate of new email releases. “Who knows what he learned and who he told”.
