Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the Polar Plunge kicks off at noon.

On Saturday, February 20 Special Olympics Northern California is holding its annual Polar Plunge fundraiser at Aquatic Park in San Francisco. Congratulations to Team Captain, Joanne Catron, and the Area 15-Charlotte County participants and many thanks for taking the plunge for Special Olympics!

“We take it pretty serious”, Hubbard said. There is no charge to Special Olympics athlete or their families to train and compete.

“It’s worse for them”, she said.

Although this year’s plunge will be the second organized by police in Ottawa, it’s the most recent in a long list of events planned in partnership with the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run to support the sport organization.

Ahead of Saturday’s Polar Plunge in Rochester, a group known as “Super Plungers”, is jumping into the freezing water of Foster Arend Pond once an hour for 24 hours.

“The money we raise goes to the athletes and if the police don’t raise it they don’t participate in sport, and it’s basically that simple”.

About $180,000 has been raised so far this year, and the hope is to break last year’s record.

It couldn’t get much colder. But there’s no fee.
