GE Healthcare in Cork is a subsidiary of United States multi-national General Electric.

It makes medical imaging contrast media and already employs 500 people in East Cork.

“It’s an excellent response from Government to my call only a few weeks ago that without such investment in third-level facilities, we would not have enough graduates to fill all the new jobs created by industry in the region at present”.

Meanwhile, French mail and digital solutions company Neopost are set to create 100 new jobs in Citywest, Dublin.

Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash announced a €15m investment in a European operations centre that will create 100 jobs there over the next two years. New cafes will be opened along with sporting facilities for the students.

Limerick IT (LIT) today (1 December) confirmed that the Board of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) has approved the institute’s proposed purchase of a new site at Coonagh Cross to build the campus.

The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland and will bring Neopost’s total employees in Ireland to nearly 160.

The offices will help manage 300,000 customers in 13 European countries, including Ireland. 134 additional jobs will also be offered during the construction phase.

The availability of new space at Coonagh will enable LIT to expand a range of other programmes and provide much-needed extra sports facilities on the north-side of the city.

Once fully completed, the centre is expected to be able to cater for 550 students by the time it opens in 2018, with the possibility that it could be expanded upon again and doubled by 2030.
