Hungary bid to extend hot streak over Iceland

The former were held to a 1-1 draw by an impressive Iceland, leading captain Cristiano Ronaldo to blast their “small mentality” in the game’s aftermath. The Portugal vs Austria Euro 2016 match will be played in Paris from 12:30 AM IST (Sunday).

Ronaldo has faced a backlash in Iceland for suggesting the first-time European Championship participants were just happy to draw 1-1 in the Group F game in Saint-Etienne on Tuesday.

Hungary, meanwhile, started their tournament with a flourish as they defeated neighbours Austria 2-0 and look well-placed to advance.

Portugal tied Iceland 1-1 and has one point.

“I think Alaba is a great player, and everyone is aware of that, but I don’t think we have a specific plan to stop Alaba”.

Both nations saw long winning runs come to an end on the opening matchday in Group F – Portugal had won seven competitive matches in a row while Austria had won nine on the bounce.

Despite dominating the game, Portugal players were denied by a brilliant display from Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson.

Belgium head into their clash with the Republic of Ireland desperate to atone for their opening defeat to Italy as debate rages about whether Romelu Lukaku should be dropped.

Second-half goals from Adam Szalai and Zoltan Steiber either side of Aleksandar Dragovic’s red-card; however, granted Hungary arguably the biggest upset of matchday one and a victory on Saturday would all but guarantee them a place in the last-16.

Santos said “when people talk about fair play sometimes it makes me want to laugh. after what the Iceland manager and some players said and did for 90 minutes”.
