There were two big name movies that were set to come out this week and both movies had a chance to grab the top spot.
It’s Reel Spoilers 138 – ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2‘.
Mockingjay-Part 2 is still trailing Part 1 at the box office, which earned more a year ago over Thanksgiving with $82.7 million.
“Mockingjay – Part 2″ is already the eighth-highest-grossing film of the year, though that is far below, for example, “Mockingjay – Part 1″ becoming the second-highest-grossing movie of 2014 and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” coming in at number one in 2013.
The Good Dinosaur, which opened on Wednesday, opened on the lower end of Pixar’s spectrum with just $55.6 million ($39.2 million from Friday to Sunday). The audience breakdown for the film skewed toward female moviegoers (53 percent) and toward moviegoers 25 years and under (58 percent).
The Good Dinosaur, Pixar’s second release of 2015, tells of a friendship between an Apatosaurus and an infant caveman in an alternate reality in which dinosaurs have not become extinct.
“This Pixar group has just been so consistent with high-quality storytelling that appeals to all audiences”. You can also find us on the Stitcher radio app for smartphones and iPads. The weekend’s only other wide opening, Victor Frankenstein, starring Daniel Radcliffe, trudged its way to a mere $3.4 million from 2,797 theaters, one of the worst openings of all time for a major studio release. Its $3.3 million was only a 14% drop from last weekend’s take, bringing its total to a robust $218 million.
Creed, the latest installment in the Rocky series, opened in third place with $30.12M and a four day total of $42.6M. The critically acclaimed Ryan Coogler-directed film focuses on the character of Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis (Michael B. Jordan), who wants his own shot in the ring with the help of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” was able to make a stronghold on the box office, keeping “The Good Dinosaur” and boxing drama “Creed”.
“This is a movie that played broadly everywhere”.

“The reviews are incredible and we’re seeing that word-of-mouth start to spread”, said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president. According to Fox News, the film costs $175-200 million to produce.
